The Philippines ended their quest for qualification in the AFC Futsal Championships on a positive note earlier today with a 2-1 victory against Myanmar at the Krungthep Thonburi Indoor Stadium.
After spotting the 2013 SEA Games hosts a lead c/o Tin Win Ko Ko, the Filipinos bounced back in the second half, with Kaya FC's Ed Mallari tying it in the 21st minute, followed by Robert Ravelo with the game-winner in the 31st minute.
The country had been already eliminated with defeats to Indonesia (12-0) and Thailand (17-2) before securing the win and third place in Group A of the ASEAN Zone. The Thais take the group with a 5-2 victory against the 2011 SEA Games hosts to face Group B runners-up Australia. Group B winners Vietnam will face Indonesia in the other semifinal. The finalists and the winner of the third-place play-off will advance to the final stages of the competition, which will take place in the UAE come May.
Other than Mallari and Ravelo, the players comprising the delegation include Pasargad FC's Daryouch Zandi, Jay-Ar Inventor, Sajjad Khodarami and Rowell Abello, as well as Diliman FC's Ariel Zerrudo. Also included in the roster are national team players Misagh Bahadoran and Angel Guirado of Global FC, but they did not join the team in the competition. Pasargad's Emaeil Sedigh handled the coaching duties.
