Italian Serie A Football Postponed

Serie-A-Logo.jpg

Just when you think football and strikes are over and done with, we are so mistaken.

After the LFP and the AFE settled their differences and missed just one week of Spanish club football, the start of Italian club football gets delayed. The Associazione Calciatori Italiani (AIC) (a.k.a the Players' Union) called for a strike after they and the Lega Calcio (a.k.a. the League) failed to agree on a collective bargaining deal.

The main crux of the deal involves a couple of issues. First is the concept of players having to pay a "solidarity tax" that is being applied towards high wage-earners. Second is the idea of differentiated training involving unwanted players with the first team. The AIC have been close to calling for a strike action last season, but was prevailed upon with the intervention of the Italian Football Federation

With Euro 2012 qualification due to take place next week, both the AIC and LC have a couple of weeks to hammer out a deal, as next Italian Matchday falls on the weekend of September 11.
