Six New Faces Line Up for Challenge Cup

Upon qualification, Weiss restructured his selections- who will he bring to Myanmar for the Challenge Cup? New faces were included in the squad including defender and UST captain David Basa, midfielders Ricardo Becite and Jerry Lucena, and forwards Yannick Tuason, Angel Aldeguer and William Guerridon.

David Basa, Defender

The UST Captain and Global FC Defender is left footed and can slot on the left side of defense. Basa helped the team qualify for the latest Suzuki Cup and was on the bench against the likes of Vietnam and Indonesia.

Yannick Tuason, Forward

The Kaya forward was on the same UST team with David Basa when they finished second to UP in 73rd season of the University Athletic Association. Watching him play for Kaya, he’s got some good touches and is aware of what’s going on around him. He can be an option for Weiss if he picks an attacking lineup.

William Guerridon, Forward

The Filipino-German front man, who has two good feet, scored 12 goals in 15 appearances. He plays in Germany's 5th division for FC Türkjemspor Itzehoe. He will be a good addition to the Philippines squad who seem to lack firepower at times.

Angel Aldeguer, Forward/Attacking Midfield

Is he the savior for the Azkals? With Phil Younghusband carrying a hamstring injury and will be out for weeks, the team will be looking at him to fill the gap left by their talisman.  The Fil-Spanish striker plays Spanish third division side Club Deportivo Ronda who can also play in the attacking midfield position.

Ricardo Becite, Midfielder

He plays midfield for UFL side Army Fritz & Macziol, who went out in the semi-finals of recent the UFL Cup beaten by Global FC in extra time. The Army midfielder’s experience gives him the edge knowing how to control and dictate play from midfield.

Jerry Lucena, Midfield/Right Back

The 30-year-old who plays for Danish first division club AGF Aarhus is one of the most awaited debuts for the national team. He also played for Denmark's U-21 in his early years. Lucena's experience can help strengthen the midfield, and add more international experience to the squad. Now that Jason de Jong is largely unavailable, Lucena may be one of the few who can bring the same quality as what de Jong is bringing to the team’s midfield if not better.
